Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941) was one of the most important musical figures in Paris between the first and second World Wars. His career included all the aspects of music: he was a virtuoso flutist, teacher, conductor and composer. Known today primarily for his flute music, Gaubert has a very large output of works in all mediums.
This CD is the first presentation of the chamber works for flute by Gaubert on period instruments: a Louis Lot (c.1865-66), and an 1899 Erard piano, courtesy of the Schubert Club Museum in St. Paul, MN.
